Grain bin robot on a 28° pile, in real time

A grain bin robot climbing, crossing and descending a 28° pile of 1.6 million grains, its augers at 300 rpm throwing grain downhill. It runs in real time on a single RTX 5090, because the solver only works where the grain is moving.

Grain bin robots are machines with augers that navigate around bins of stored grain. This one works a pile of 12 mm grains banked at 28°, with the augers spinning at 300 rpm and throwing grain downhill as the machine climbs, crosses and descends the slope.

The demo is also part of our continuing work to optimise the NDEM solver. Grain within half a metre of the machine, plus anything still in motion, is solved. The rest is asleep and costs almost nothing, because the contact solve runs on a short list of the awake grains alone.

Simulated with NDEM, our real-time granular engine.
